Richmond Racecourse House

Project Description
Located on the former site of John Wren’s Richmond Racecourse and within Richmond’s first public housing estate, this modest red brick home has been thoughtfully reimagined for contemporary family living.
The project balances the home’s historical context with the practical needs of a growing family. Stage 1 delivered a light-filled extension and complete modernisation of the existing residence, improving functionality, comfort and connection to the outdoors while retaining the character of the original home.
Designed with longevity in mind, the project extends beyond the built works you can see here. Rather than stretching the budget to deliver everything at once, the home was carefully masterplanned to accommodate a future Stage 2 addition, including two further bedrooms and bathroom if required.
While the second stage has not been needed, the value of this forward-thinking approach remains. The home now benefits from a considered long-term plan that can be passed on to future owners, providing flexibility for growing families, multigenerational living or new ways of living.
